High price of eggs in Madaripur: Consumer rights in campaign, fine

The Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate and Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection have fined four wholesale traders Tk 20,000 after raiding the Madaripur wholesale market to curb the abnormally high egg prices.
The fine was imposed in a raid on the city's old market on Saturday (August 12) morning. The campaign was led by the office of the Deputy Commissioner
Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Salahuddin Mahmud and Director of District Consumer Directorate Jannatul Ferdous.

At that time, Hazrat Shahjalal Traders was fined Tk 5,000, Shah Mother Traders Tk 5,000, Shaon Enterprises Tk 5,000 and a raw material shop Tk 20,000 for not mentioning the price of eggs in the price list, purchase receipt and sales receipt.
Also cautionary instructions are given to other traders in the market.
After the operation, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Salahuddin Mahmud said that the price of eggs is increasing abnormally due to unscrupulous traders in Madaripur egg market. Therefore, this surveillance operation against them will continue.
Even then, if any kind of manipulation is found, more fines will be imposed, said the Assistant Commissioner

Mention, the price of eggs has increased by leaps and bounds in the last few days. Farm chicken eggs are now selling at 60 taka. That is, the price of one piece of egg is 15 rupees. Last week too, a piece of egg was sold at 11 to 12 taka, that is, the price was 48 to 50 taka. Apart from this, domestic chicken eggs are being sold at the price of 200 to 210 taka per dozen. Duck eggs are being sold at 240 taka. Golden chicken eggs are being sold at 60 taka. And a dozen is being sold for 180 taka. Hundreds of domestic chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 1500.
