Popular Kolkata actress Swastika Mukherjee recently made an explosive comment on the promotion of men and women in the workplace. She claimed that even in 2025, women's professional skills and passion for work are being ignored and their promotions are often done in exchange for their bodies, which in the case of men are seen as hard work and qualifications.
In an interview given to Indian media, Swastika said, "When men get promoted, it is considered the result of hard work, but in the case of women, they get promoted in exchange for their bodies or through beauty, which is very sad. Women's skills and passion for work are being underestimated everywhere."
She added, "Women's rights are being challenged in today's society. What happened recently in the kissing incident at the metro station clearly proves that our mindset has not changed. No one has spoken out against the culprit who shared the video. On the contrary, there is nothing to say except to be surprised by the society's concern about love or expressions of affection."
Swastika has emphasized the importance of character over beauty in the workplace. She said, "I want more attention to be paid to my character, not beauty. I have created myself in the workplace, and those characters have found a place in people's minds."
She also commented on the longevity of girls' careers in showbiz. According to her, girls' careers do not last very long, but she wants to continue her work until old age. "My father taught me that you should not think just for five years, but for the future 25 years. How long you have done that work, that is the most important thing," said Swastika.
Her comments in this interview have caused a stir, shedding new light on society's view of women's rights and the question of equal opportunities in the workplace.
