After heavy rains and Indian mountain landslides, water has started entering Rangamati as well. There have been reports of landslides in different parts of the district. Meanwhile, the Chittagong-Rangamati highway was blocked for almost 2 hours due to a landslide in the Kalabagan area of Ghagra.

The low-lying areas of Bandban's Kaukhali upazila have been flooded due to the heavy rains of the last few days causing landslides. Traffic is disrupted due to landslides at various places. The houses of the shelter project located in the Kaukhali upazila headquarters have been submerged under water. Traffic was stopped for about 2 hours due to a mountain collapse in the Kalabagan area of Ghagra on the Chittagong-Rangamati highway.

Visiting different areas of this upazila from Thursday morning to noon, it is seen that the situation is terrible everywhere. Despite being born in this hilly area, Pahari has not seen water in the last 20/30 years.

The alternative bridge built over the Kaukhali Canal near Kaukhali Bazar is liable to collapse at any moment and cut off the communication system. Apart from this, all the houses of the project were submerged under the water after the collapse of the government shelter hill built in the Karbari Para area very close to the upazila headquarters. When the water suddenly rose late at night, the people living in these houses somehow managed to get out of the house with their lives.

Kaukhali Upazila Project Implementation Officer. Fazlul Haque said that about 40 houses of the shelter project have been damaged in different areas of the upazila. He also said that the affected families have been brought to the shelter with the help of upazila administration, Red Crescent Society and local volunteers. Actual damage will be assessed when the rain subsides.

Kaukhali Upazila Executive Officer Happy Das said that the affected families have been brought to the shelter. Necessary help will be provided by the upazila administration.
