Sajib Wazed Joy, son of Sheikh Hasina, said that if the party leaders and workers want, they will think about returning to Bangladesh and taking over the leadership of Awami League.

Joy said this in a special interview given to Indian media NDTV on Friday. He said his mother did not want to leave the country and wanted to return to Bangladesh.
Joy also emphasized in the interview that Sheikh Hasina wanted to retire during the last two terms of her prime ministership. He also did not rule out the possibility of his mother returning to active politics.
Joy said, "She (Sheikh Hasina) is in one place. "None of the things that are being said about his visa or asylum application... are true."
Joy told NDTV, 'I spoke to her (Sheikh Hasina) yesterday (Thursday) night. He hasn't made any future plans yet. He really wants to go back to Bangladesh. It could be a return to politics or a return to retirement. This is his house. He grew up there. This would have been his last term, he was 76 years old. He wants to spend his retirement at his village home in Tungipara. That is his dream. He does not want to spend his retirement anywhere outside Bangladesh.

Joy claimed that her mother did politics for the country and not for power. Joy said, "He wanted to retire in the last two terms. Even before every election he insisted me to return home and join politics. No one in our family was ambitious for power or politics.'
Even though he did not respond to his mother's proposal then, in response to the question whether he wants to lead the team or not, Joy further said, "I think, now I have already become that." I never wanted it. I have no political ambitions. But whenever I came to know, our party leaders were being attacked, their houses were being burnt. I said, I can't let go of their hands.
Sheikh Hasina's son said, 'I am in touch with many leaders of my party. Almost all the houses of our ministers have been burnt down. Our ancestral house has also been burnt down...In this situation, I will do what is necessary. Awami League still has millions of followers, it cannot disappear overnight.'

The workers will decide who will take the lead

Joy believes that Awami League will be able to win the elections due to the development work that Sheikh Hasina has done in the country. He said, Awami League is one of the democratic parties and the leaders and workers will decide who will lead the party.
Sajib Wazed said, "If Awami League workers ask me to return, I will think about the matter." It depends on the team members. If the party wants her (Sheikh Hasina) to be the leader, then she will be the leader. We are a fully democratic party. Who is going to lead their party will depend entirely on the party members.
