On the occasion of the 100th day of the student uprising, a discussion meeting titled 'Successes and Limitations of the July Revolution' was held at the Islamic University (EB). The anti-discrimination student movement organized it on Saturday (November 16) evening at the main gate of the university. More than hundred students of different departments participated in it.
The meeting was organized on the second day of the two-day program to mark the centenary of the fall of the government. Co-coordinator Tanveer Mahmud Mondal chaired the meeting, anti-discrimination student movement EB coordinator SM Sweet, co-coordinator Nahid Hasan, Yashirul Kabir Sourav, Golam Rabbani and other co-coordinators spoke.
Speakers at the meeting said the July coup was not just about a change of government. It was about changing the whole approach. If that is not implemented then this coup will not succeed. We can speak openly after the coup. This is the achievement worth mentioning. The state and social system have not yet been reformed. They are not able to implement the steps that the interim government was supposed to take. We demand to focus on reforming the state system in keeping with the spirit of the July Revolution. Otherwise, they will not leave the way in the future as the students came down to the streets.
They also said that we wanted the culture of students being hostages to political organizations in the universities to stop completely. But we're still seeing that culture coming back. This cannot be accepted at all. We have to be aware of these things. Political parties seem to have started election campaigns. This is by no means expected. We request everyone to be united in the state reform in the future as we have been united in movement.
SM Sweet, EB coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, 'After the revolution, we are still noticing that the families of those injured and killed in this movement are not receiving proper help and support. I call upon the interim government to take these steps as soon as possible. Many of the universities that had taken a stand against the July movement still continued their activities under the existing conditions. This administration has not taken any significant action against them so far.' He also demanded that the opponents of the July Revolution be brought to justice
Earlier, as part of the two-day program, the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement of EB visited the grave of martyr Osama of Kushtia who was killed in the student movement on Friday. At the end of Friday prayers at Dahkula Jame Masjid, they visited Osama's grave after distributing food to the Muslims to pray for the peace of Osama's soul. Later he conducted a tree plantation program in the campus.
