India reveals the reason for not accepting the trophy from Naqvi.

India has emerged as the champion of the Women's Asia Cup. However, even after winning the title, the Indian women's cricket team did not accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi. Following the example set by the men's team, the women cricketers maintained the stance of not accepting the trophy from a Pakistani official.

Bilateral relations between India and Pakistan have long been tense. Ties deteriorated further following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025. The situation escalated even more after India launched 'Operation Sindoor'.

Speaking to the news agency IANS after the final, BCCI Secretary Debajit Saikia stated that the situation changed after the Pahalgam incident. There was pressure from citizens regarding relations with the neighboring country and the issue of playing cricket against them.

However, he noted that under the Indian government's policy, the team is required to play against every nation in multinational tournaments. The BCCI Secretary mentioned that the Indian team was sent to play against Pakistan precisely because of this policy.

Saikia clarified, however, that playing against Pakistan in a multinational tournament does not imply acceptance of all associated matters. According to him, accepting the trophy from Naqvi was not possible due to the strained relations and the recent situation.

He added that their stance is that Naqvi is a key figure acting against India's interests; hence, the trophy was not accepted from him.

Previously, the Indian men's cricket team had also refused to accept the trophy and medals from Mohsin Naqvi last year. That trophy has not yet reached the Indian team and remains at the ACC headquarters. On that occasion, the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, celebrated the title on the podium without the trophy.
