Amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, a new controversy has arisen over Iran's participation in the World Cup. However, US President Donald Trump has made it clear that he has no concerns about whether Iran will play in the World Cup.

There are less than 100 days left until the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This time, the tournament is being jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico for the first time. However, due to the recent tensions between Iran, the US and Israel, various questions have been raised about Iran's participation.

Iran has qualified for the World Cup and all three of their group stage matches are scheduled to be held in the United States. However, it is believed that the team's participation may face uncertainty due to political tensions.

In an interview with the US media outlet Politico, Trump said that he is not particularly worried about Iran's participation in the World Cup. "Honestly, I don't have any concerns about it. I think Iran is a very badly beaten country, they are running on fumes."

Meanwhile, Iran was the only country absent from a planning conference for the participating countries in Atlanta, raising doubts about their participation.

However, world football's governing body FIFA does not want to make a final decision on the matter right now. The organization's general secretary Mattias Grafström said that a decision will be made later after monitoring the current situation. He said, "Our goal is to organize a safe World Cup that ensures everyone's participation."

Meanwhile, Mehdi Taj, president of the Iranian Football Federation, said that the country's sports officials will make the final decision on participation in the 2026 World Cup.
