Mustafizur Rahman got his last chance, and he proved his ability with that opportunity. This left-arm pacer performed brilliantly with the ball in the last match for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He took 3 wickets, and at the same time broke Shakib Al Hasan's long-standing record - Mustafiz is now the bowler who took the most wickets for Bangladesh in the history of the IPL.
Before the start of the match, Mustafiz had 62 wickets in 59 innings. On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan ended his IPL career with 63 wickets in 70 innings. In today's match against Punjab Kings, Mustafiz took 3 wickets to take his total wickets to 65, in just 60 innings. As a result, he surpassed Shakib.
Mustafiz struck with the ball for Delhi at the beginning at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. He picked up Priyansh Arya. Then he brought back Shashank Singh in the death over. And in the last over, he also sent Marco Jansen to the pavilion. His controlled and effective spell was 3 wickets for 33 runs in four overs—at an economy of 8.25. Where other bowlers have spent more than 9 runs on average, Mustafiz was relatively economical.
Punjab Kings relied on their batting to set a huge target of 206 runs with Shreyas Iyer's 53 runs and Marcus Stoinis' 44 runs off 16 balls. In reply, Delhi Capitals batted aggressively from the start. Despite losing wickets one after the other, every batsman played at a strike rate of at least 150.
The biggest difference was made by a batter who came out towards the end, who played a devastating innings of 58 runs off just 25 balls. His batting gave momentum to Delhi's innings and Delhi Capitals secured victory with 6 wickets in hand with 3 balls to spare.
Although Delhi could not make it to the playoffs with this victory, they left the IPL with dignity. And Mustafiz has left behind a proud record, which will be remembered in the history of IPL and Bangladesh cricket.
