If there is no visible positive change in politics and economy, the young generation or Gen-G may again launch a mass uprising, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo has warned.

He said this at an event organized in Banani in the capital on Saturday. The event was organized by the International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh. The cover of a book written by Nepalese businessman Binod Chaudhary was unveiled there.

The minister said that good governance and a strong economy are essential to reduce poverty and inequality. In his words, “Good politics and a good economy complement each other. In the absence of one, the other is not sustainable.” He also said that if there is a deficit in these two sectors, people get angry and take to the streets—a recent example of which is Bangladesh and Nepal.

At that time, he warned that if the current reality does not bring about necessary reforms, a major mass movement or uprising may occur again under the leadership of Gen-G.

Speaking at the event, Vinod Chowdhury said that geographical reality often affects the country's economy and politics. He believes that coordination with India is important to increase regional cooperation.

He also said that although the economic relations between Bangladesh and Nepal have not progressed much in the last three decades, new possibilities have opened up recently through electricity exports. He called for further expansion of trade by increasing bilateral and trilateral cooperation.

Various businessmen and diplomats were present at the event and emphasized the importance of strengthening regional economic cooperation.
