Barcelona lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid at home in La Liga after 18 months. With this loss, the Catalans lost the top spot in the points table. And this is Atletico's 12th consecutive win in all competitions this season.
Barca played well in the first half at the Nou Camp on December 21. After 30 minutes, Pedri received a ball from Gavi and scored a low right-footed shot. Barcelona went into the break ahead with his goal.
After returning from the break, Atletico equalized after 60 minutes of the match. Taking advantage of a mistake in the Barca defense, Rodrigo de Paul scored a goal to equalize the visitors.
The match ended in regular time with attacks and counterattacks. The scoreline was still 1-1. Sorloth, who came on as a substitute in the second half, made the difference in the 96th minute. Nahuel Molina's pass from the right side eluded two Barcelona players. Sorloth stunned the home crowd with his first touch, burying the ball in the net. Atletico eventually won 2-1.
Atletico have overtaken Barcelona to move to the top. They now have 41 points from 18 matches. Barcelona are second with 38 points, having played one more match. Real Madrid are third with 37 points from 17 matches.
