Former councilor Kazi Jahanara arrested in Saidpur, tension at police station over 'Joy Bangla' slogan

Police have arrested Kazi Jahanara Begum, general secretary of the Saidpur Municipal Women's Awami League (programs banned) and former councilor of the reserved women's ward in Nilphamari. She was arrested from an arbitration meeting in the Golghar area of Saidpur police station around 11:30 pm on Tuesday.
Police said that after her arrest, while being sent to the Nilphamari Sadar police station, Kazi Jahanara raised various slogans including 'Joy Bangla' in the Saidpur police station premises. At that time, a tense situation arose in front of the police station. Later, members of the law enforcement agencies quickly brought the situation under control.
According to eyewitnesses, when Kazi Jahanara was being taken into a police van, she raised slogans of "Joy Bangla" and "The tool of the 1970s, let it roar again", which spread tension among the people present there. After the incident, his supporters started gathering at the Syedpur police station, and additional police were deployed.
In this regard, Md. Rezaul Karim Reza said that he was arrested in a murder case in Nilphamari. Later, Zillur Rahman said that he was made an accused in the murder case of farmer Siddiq Ali in Ramganj area on October 22, 2024. When he was produced in court on Wednesday, the court rejected his bail application and ordered him to be sent to jail.
