BNP leader Rezaul Qayyum arrested in Comilla, police station surrounded and bus terminal blocked

Tension has spread in Comilla over the arrest of BNP leader Rezaul Qayyum. Party leaders and activists have surrounded the Kotwali Model Police Station demanding his release. At the same time, transport workers have blocked the Shasngacha Bus Terminal and stopped bus services.
On Sunday (May 3), the Kotwali Model Police Station and the District Intelligence Branch arrested him from his house in the Shasngacha area of the city on Sunday afternoon. He is the former joint convener of the Comilla South District BNP and the president of the Adarsh Sadar Upazila BNP.
Police said that he was arrested on the orders of the high-level government. He is accused of controlling extortion at the Shasngacha Bus Terminal. Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Anwar said that he has been brought to the police station for questioning.
Protesting the arrest, BNP leaders and activists demonstrated in front of the police station and raised various slogans. In the same incident, the suffering of passengers increased when transport drivers and workers stopped bus services.
The main gate of the police station has been closed and additional police have been deployed in the area to control the situation.
