NCP Marks First Founding Anniversary with Pledge to Build the Nation on a New Path

On the pledge of “Building the Nation on a New Path,” the National Citizen Party (NCP) is celebrating its first founding anniversary today, carrying the slogan: “The country will move on a new path, fascism will never return.” The day’s central program will begin on Saturday (February 28) with an iftar gathering at the Abahani Limited Dhaka ground in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The event is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm. Party leaders said the occasion is not only a celebration of the anniversary but also an opportunity to evaluate their political journey over the past year and outline future plans.
At a press conference marking the anniversary, Ariful Islam Adib, convener of the celebration implementation committee, said the program will bring together families of those martyred in the July mass uprising, representatives of various political parties, leaders of anti-fascist organizations, journalists, teachers, workers, and people from different walks of life. Alongside the iftar, there will be a photo exhibition and a series of promotional segments titled “Street Wall,” highlighting key moments from the party’s political activities over the past year. A photo booth will also be available for visitors.
In addition to the central event, iftar programs have been planned at the divisional level. According to the schedule, events will be held sequentially in Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Barishal, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Cumilla. The Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units of the party will also organize separate iftar gatherings, party sources said.
It is worth noting that following the July mass uprising on August 5, 2024, the NCP formally emerged on February 28 through an initiative led by students. Since its inception, the party has been vocal about state reform and demanding justice for the killings during the July events. In the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the NCP joined the 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and fielded candidates in 30 constituencies. Six of its candidates, including Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, were elected as Members of Parliament. Participating in elections for the first time, the party has emerged within a year as a notable force in the country’s political landscape.
