The Islami University unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal submitted separate memorandums to the provosts of three residential halls on Monday (February 23), placing four major demands including quality food, cleanliness, Ramadan iftar arrangements, and strengthened security.
The memorandums were handed over to the provosts of Islamic University, Bangladesh’s Shahid Ziaur Rahman Hall, Saddam Hossain Hall, and Shah Azizur Rahman Hall. In the written statements, the organization highlighted several ongoing problems in the halls and called for immediate and effective solutions.
Among their key demands were ensuring standard and hygienic food in the dining facilities, maintaining proper cleanliness in washrooms and kitchens, arranging iftar meals for residential students during Ramadan, and increasing security during Ramadan and university vacation periods.
According to the memorandum, Shahid Ziaur Rahman Hall—named after Ziaur Rahman—has allegedly faced various forms of deprivation over the past 17 years. Residential students claimed they have long been experiencing significant issues, which become more severe during Ramadan and campus holidays. They added that similar problems exist in Saddam Hossain Hall and Shah Azizur Rahman Hall.
The memorandum further mentioned concerns such as low-quality food in dining halls, unhygienic food serving conditions, unclean washrooms and toilets, poor kitchen hygiene, and inadequate security when most students leave the halls during Ramadan and vacation periods.
Leaders and activists of the organization stated that if the authorities take necessary measures addressing these issues, the overall residential environment would become safer, cleaner, and more conducive to academic life.
