Mohammad Ibrahim, who contested the 13th National Parliamentary Election in the Dhaka-5 constituency with the “Hand Fan” symbol of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, has announced that he is temporarily stepping away from party politics.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, he wrote, “For now (until the party attains proper political characteristics), I am withdrawing myself from all activities of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.”
In an earlier post, Ibrahim explained his stance on the election results. He stated that the people of Dhaka-5 did not make a mistake; rather, they delivered a response to a political mistake made at the party level. He said he respects the people’s verdict without any অভিযোগ and expressed gratitude to those who voted for him.
According to the election results, Ibrahim received 14,206 votes. The winning candidate from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, secured 96,641 votes. His nearest rival from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Nabi Ullah Nabi, received 87,491 votes.
In another post, Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the grassroots leaders and activists of Islami Andolan Bangladesh. He said many of them worked tirelessly and selflessly day and night. Day laborers and working-class supporters also set aside their personal commitments to campaign for him. He added that Allah would reward them for their sacrifices.
Stating that he is not disappointed with the election outcome, Ibrahim said the result reflects the level of preparation and work done, and he has no regrets or complaints. However, he emphasized the need for clear planning and defined goals for the future. He noted that millions of people’s labor, sweat, and dreams are tied to Islami Andolan Bangladesh. He expressed readiness to dedicate his life, time, and resources to the organization—provided there is a clear roadmap and vision for the future.
Congratulating the newly elected Member of Parliament Mohammad Kamal Hossain, Ibrahim wished him success. It is noteworthy that Ibrahim is a two-time elected councilor of Ward No. 67 under the Dhaka South City Corporation, where many residents consider him to have served with a good reputation at the local level.
