Cox's Bazar has fallen behind due to bank robbers: Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Published: 06:16 2 February 2026
Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the main reason why a region with potential like Cox's Bazar could not become a modern city like Singapore is bank robbers and money launderers. Cox's Bazar will be transformed into a modern tourist city by bringing back the laundered money and utilizing the immense potential of tourism. At the same time, an international standard university will be established here.
He said these things as the chief guest at a huge election rally organized by the 11-party alliance at Baharchhara Bir Muktijoddha Chattar in Cox's Bazar city on Monday (February 2) afternoon.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "We do not want this old politics of the king's son becoming the king. If we want to build the country, we must give the talented people an opportunity to come forward. We want to build a just and humane Bangladesh."
He said that the election to be held on February 12 is the election to realize the dream of the July Revolution. This election is unlike any previous election. From DUCSU to JOCSU, the young people have clearly stated that they are no longer with the rotten and old politics.
The top leader of the 11-party alliance said that it is never possible to build a corruption-free Bangladesh by patronizing loan defaulters. The officials and employees of the republic will be the servants of the people. No concession will be given to the killers of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and Shaheed Osman Hadi. However, he also mentioned that if someone repents and wants to return to the mainstream, he will be given a chance.
At the rally, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman introduced the candidates for the three constituencies of Cox's Bazar.
Cox's Bazar-4 constituency candidate Principal Maulana Nur Ahmed Anwari said that after the July uprising, the people of the country want change and this change will start from Ukhia-Teknaf.
Cox's Bazar-3 constituency candidate Shahidul Alam Bahadur said that for the last 54 years, the country has been a victim of looting, corruption and terrorism. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman's leadership, he expressed hope that the country will be free from loot and corruption.
Cox's Bazar-1 constituency candidate Abdullah Al Faruk said that groundbreaking steps will be taken in the education and medical sectors.
