Mirza Fakhrul receives courtesy call from European Union Ambassador

Michael Miller, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Dhaka, paid a courtesy call on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The meeting was held at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan in the capital on Wednesday.
During the meeting, both sides reportedly discussed the current political situation in Bangladesh, human rights, democracy and the context of the upcoming national elections. The EU Ambassador highlighted the importance of continuing the democratic process in the political arena of Bangladesh and hoped for a peaceful, transparent and acceptable election with the participation of all parties.
Present from the BNP side at the meeting were party standing committee member and Chairperson's Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and BNP Organizing Secretary and Foreign Policy Advisory Committee member Shama Obaid.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed his gratitude to the European Union and said that the international community's cooperation and interest in restoring democracy in Bangladesh carries a positive message for the people of the country. He further said that BNP has always worked for democracy, voting rights and the rule of law and the party will continue its peaceful political program to establish people's rights.
After the meeting, BNP sources said that the EU representative is closely monitoring the overall political situation in Bangladesh and expressed hope that it will play a constructive role in restoring democracy.
Political analysts see this meeting as an important diplomatic message in Bangladeshi politics. They believe that the international community's attention to the electoral and human rights situation in Bangladesh can have a positive impact on the country's internal politics.
