Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee member and Dhaka Metropolitan South Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud said that the people of the country have banned the Awami League by calling it a genocidal party on August 5; in that case, the Chief Advisor's statement is 'a betrayal of the nation'. He made these demands as the chief guest at the Dhaka-5 parliamentary constituency student representative rally on Tuesday (September 30).
Speaking at the rally, Masud said, "Awami League has not been banned, its activities have been suspended; Awami League activities can be activated at any time - the statement of the Chief Advisor that has come to the media is a betrayal of the entire nation." He also said that despite the steps taken by the government, the people's judgment is separate and permanent, and the people's decision on the August 5 incident is clear.
Masud said, “Nowhere in the world has a genocidal party been able to come back to the people a second time. Awami League will not be able to come back either.” Referring to the conscience and memory of the present people, he said that those who try to rehabilitate the party will face resistance from the people. Masud further claimed, “The genocidal party that shot the people in the chest has lost the right to do politics.”
At the rally, he praised the government’s policy development and security measures, as well as asked to give importance to the voice of people’s anger and disapproval. He said that the decision and consciousness seen after the incident is a big warning in the country’s political environment.
Background — In the recent news, various political parties and social organizations of the country have expressed various reactions to the August 5 incident. Political debate continues over the incident and its subsequent administrative steps, and various comments are coming out from different quarters. The comments and analysis of political leaders are being monitored at this time.
It is worth noting that the local workers of the party were present at the student representative rally organized by Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka Metropolitan South. In his speech, Masud stressed the need for activism and a united stance among students and youth, and said that history and the path of people's justice should not be forgotten.
In the concluding part, Masud called on all political forces to work peacefully and sensitively to restore the nation's trust — but according to him, if anyone tries to restore a party involved in the genocide, the people will never accept it.
