6.3 million new voters in the country, 2.3 million excluded!

As part of the door-to-door voter list update program, more than 6.3 million citizens have been newly added to the country. On the other hand, more than 2.3 million voters have been excluded from the voter list due to death.

This information was given in a notification signed by Abdul Momin Sarkar, Director of the National Identity Registration (NID) Division of the Election Commission (EC) on Saturday (April 26).

The notification said that so far, information of 6.3 million 17 thousand 600 people has been collected in the ongoing update program. Of these, 2.9 million 61 thousand 57 are males, 3.3 million 56 thousand 250 are females and 294 are of the third gender. Of them, the registration has been completed by collecting photographs and fingerprints of 6.1 million 76 thousand 838 people.

On the other hand, the names of 2.3 million 27 thousand 117 people have been excluded from the voter list due to death. Of these, 14 lakh 4 thousand 72 are male, 9 lakh 22 thousand 781 are female and 326 are of the third gender.

According to the Election Commission, the registration process has been completed in 522 police stations/upazilas of the country till April 20 this year. At that time, the citizens who were not registered have filled in their information online and become voters by going to the registration center.

According to the latest updated information, the total number of voters in the country currently stands at 12 crore 37 lakh 32 thousand 274. The EC said that the updating process is still ongoing and the final voter list will be published next June.
