48 hours ultimatum to remove chief engineer and secretary of DSCC

Published: 12:35 13 August 2024
The officers, employees and engineers of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have been protesting for the last few days demanding the removal of Chief Engineer Ashikur Rahman and Secretary Akramuzzaman. The aggrieved have also met the CEO of the company and requested the removal of the Chief Engineer. The angry officers and employees have demanded the removal of these two officers within 48 hours.
On Tuesday (August 13) at 11:30 a.m., the angry officers and employees held a protest program on the second floor of the city building of DSCC.
On the surface, it can be seen that hundreds of employees and officials gathered together and raised various slogans against City Corporation Chief Engineer Ashikur Rahman and Secretary Akramuzzaman. This time they want to remove these two officials quickly.
Angry officials and employees said that these two officials have committed unprecedented corruption and misdeeds. They have fired many officers and employees without reason. Due to their irregularities and corruption, various services of the city corporation have been disrupted. We want the immediate removal of these two officials.
In this regard, Food and Sanitation Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation and Secretary General of Bangladesh City and Municipal Employees Federation SM Mosharof Hossain Milon said that there have been many injustices and atrocities in Dhaka South City Corporation in the past few days. Innocent employee brothers and sisters have been tortured a lot. Section 64 of the City Corporation 2 provides for the dismissal of many good employees without any notice and without prejudice. Shame on Akramuzzaman, the dictatorial secretary of Dhaka South City Corporation for the last four years. Apart from this, I also condemn the so-called chief engineer Ashiqur Rahman brought by Mayor Tapas. I thank Mayor Tapas for the good things he has done and condemn him for the bad things he has done.
He said that the chief engineer and secretary should be removed within the next 48 hours. If they are not removed within this time frame we will take more stringent action. Besides, we want a nationalist administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation. There are 12 nationalist ward councilors if someone is made a panel mayor. A panel should be made mayor from among them.
Angry officials and employees said that if the demands are not met within the stipulated time, they will stop all services starting from mosquito extermination and cleaning.
Acting Chief Engineer Ashikur Rahman exercised unusual powers by being close to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and managing Mayor Tapas. He has dominated the DSCC with single power. In many cases, he himself exercised the authority of the mayor over the engineers, officers and employees. He was strategically promoted as Acting Chief Engineer in 2023.
Already, posters with the banner of conscious citizens have been put up on various walls of city buildings. 'No Entry' posters have been put up on the doors of the office of Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer.
Acting Chief Engineer Ashikur Rahman has not been coming to the office since the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5. Wanted to talk about the whole matter but couldn't talk to him as his phone was switched off.
