The Indian High Commission in Dhaka paid tribute to martyred President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam on his 45th martyrdom anniversary. The tribute was paid in a statement published on its verified Facebook page on Saturday (May 30).
The statement said that while the people of Bangladesh are remembering one of the nation's greatest sons, Ziaur Rahman, they are also remembering his historic radio speech in March 1971. It was mentioned that that speech inspired the people in the struggle for independence and inspired them to move forward on the path of national liberation.
The Indian High Commission further said that just as India stood by the people of Bangladesh during the Liberation War, it stands by the people of the two countries today in their journey of mutual sacrifice, friendship, progress and prosperity.
This message given on the occasion of Ziaur Rahman's martyrdom anniversary is seen as part of showing respect for the historical relations between the two countries and the memory of the Liberation War.
