A sign of the beginning of a new era! Bhutanese Prime Minister is interested in a free trade agreement with Bangladesh

Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States. In this meeting, he expressed deep interest in a free trade agreement (FTA) and economic zone connectivity between the two countries with Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh.
Tshering Tobgay said that if Bhutan's special economic zone Gelepu Mindfulness City (GMC) is linked to the special economic zone in Kurigram, trade and investment between the two countries will reach a new level. He also expressed interest in cooperating with Bangladesh in hydropower, pharmaceutical investment and fiber optic connectivity.
Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus welcomed the meeting and said, "Bangladesh and Bhutan can take bilateral relations to new heights through improved communication and trade."
The two leaders also discussed the Rohingya crisis. Tshering Tobgay said that Bhutan will participate in the UN plenary session on September 30. Bhutan also appreciated Bangladesh's role in expanding religious tourism and tourism.
At the end of the meeting, Professor Yunus invited the Bhutanese Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh. Tshering Tobgay accepted and said that he would probably visit Bangladesh before the national elections in February.
