Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Col. (Retd.) Dr. Oli Ahmed has made an explosive claim that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was directly involved in the assassination of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. He said, "I have been saying repeatedly - Ziaur Rahman's assassination was not the result of any ordinary political incident, Sheikh Hasina was behind it."
He also said, "India's long-standing desire is to establish a government loyal to them in Bangladesh. First they liked Sheikh Mujib, then they wanted to remove Ziaur Rahman. And Sheikh Hasina herself was at the center of this conspiracy." According to Oli Ahmed's claim, Sheikh Hasina and Sajeda Chowdhury tried to escape before Ziaur Rahman's assassination and were caught by the BDR at the Akhaura border. “Ziaur Rahman was killed within 17-18 days of their capture and return. This is not a coincidence,” he said.
At the time, Oli Ahmed called the Awami League a banned political organization and said, “If the Awami League had been banned immediately after 1975, we would not have seen today’s anarchy. This party has pushed the country towards destruction. The Awami League will never be able to stand tall as a party in Bangladesh again.”
Taking a dig at economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Oli Ahmed said, “If you are a true patriot, then leave aside the foreign agenda and become the leader of Bangladesh. If any group takes advantage of the Chittagong port, it is harmful for the country. These evil tactics must be stopped.”
Regarding the humanitarian corridor, he warned, “If a unilateral decision is taken, it can be a boomerang for the government. Before making such a decision in the national interest, everyone must be consulted.”
At the end of the press conference, he also spoke out about corruption and abuse of power in local governments, saying, "No one has the right to make the lives of ordinary people difficult by blocking roads because of who will be the mayor of where. No one can become a leader by trampling on the rights of the people."
