Former MP and renowned singer Momtaz Begum lost her shoes amid the intense jostling and rush in the court premises. The incident occurred when Momtaz Begum was produced at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court at 2:17 pm on Tuesday (May 13).
According to relevant sources, chaos started within the security circle when she was taken to the court's jail. Momtaz Begum fell into the protests and jostling of lawyers. At that time, she was quickly taken to the jail while wearing a helmet on her head and a bulletproof jacket on her chest. Momtaz Begum was walking with her head down and at one point, one of her shoes fell off her feet while she was being taken running.
Eyewitnesses said that the pair of shoes lying in front of the jail gate matched the photo taken by the DB office after Momtaz Begum's arrest. The same type of shoes were seen on her feet in the photo. This created quite a stir in the court area.
Sub-Inspector (SI) in-charge of the jail Kamrur Islam said, "The accused has been sent from the jail. I did not notice whether he had shoes on his feet or not. There is no known incident of losing shoes in the rush."
Earlier, police arrested Momtaz Begum from the capital's Dhanmondi area at 12:15 am on Monday (May 12). When she was produced in court on Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Jewel Rana granted her a four-day remand in the Md. Sagar murder case of Mirpur Police Station.
Since Momtaz Begum's arrest and appearance in court, a tense atmosphere has been created in the entire area. The entire day passed in the court premises amidst the anger of lawyers, the media crowd, and strict police security.
