The court has banned four members of the Sheikh family, including former MP from Khulna-2 constituency Sheikh Salauddin, from traveling abroad on corruption charges. The others under the ban are Sheikh Salauddin's brother Sheikh Sohel, Sheikh Jalal Uddin Rubel and former MP from Bagerhat-2 constituency Sheikh Tanmoy.
On Thursday (April 24), the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order in response to an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed the matter.
Deputy Director Md. Mostafizur Rahman presented the application on behalf of the ACC in the court. The application states that various irregularities and corruption allegations against former ministers and members of parliament of the previous government are under investigation. There is information that the accused are trying to secretly transfer illegal assets acquired in their names and flee abroad. As a result, the investigation process may be disrupted.
The petition further states that it is necessary to prevent the four individuals involved from traveling abroad to ensure a fair and uninterrupted investigation.
