Police detained nine Bangladeshi nationals at the New Bongaigaon railway station in Assam, India. They were arrested during a joint operation while planning to travel to another state for work. Police stated that Bangladeshi identity cards and passports, along with suspected fake Indian Aadhaar cards, were seized from them.

Indian media outlet NDTV reported that the Bongaigaon District Police and the Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted this joint operation on Wednesday (September 30). Bongaigaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Numal Mahatta stated that six individuals were initially detained, followed by the arrest of three others. Interrogation confirmed that all of them were Bangladeshi nationals. Police reported the recovery of four Bangladeshi national identity cards, one passport, six mobile phones, five train tickets, and three suspected fake Indian Aadhaar cards. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had entered Assam via another Indian state. Notably, in a separate operation on September 16, Assam Police had previously detained a total of 27 Bangladeshi nationals—including women and children—in Guwahati and Rangiya. Law enforcement agencies have stated that such operations against those entering India illegally will continue.
