Mehra Al Nahyan, a member of the United Arab Emirates royal family, has been sentenced following an incident in London, UK, where she was found unconscious on a street with a three-year-old child. The court heard that she had fallen ill after consuming cocaine, leaving the child to play unattended beside a busy road.
The incident occurred on June 13 in West London. Passersby discovered 32-year-old Mehra unconscious on the roadside, while the three-year-old child played nearby, barefoot. Fearing an accident, the bystanders ensured the child’s safety and alerted the police.
Mehra regained consciousness about 30 minutes later. Although police found drug paraphernalia in her possession, no illegal substances were recovered.
On Tuesday (October 13), at Southwark Crown Court in London, Mehra pleaded guilty to a charge of child neglect. Her lawyer stated that while she had not consumed cocaine on the day of the incident, she was suffering from extreme exhaustion due to drug use over the preceding days.
Mehra’s lawyer further informed the court that she is remorseful for her actions and is currently undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation center to overcome her substance addiction.
The presiding judge remarked that had the bystanders not intervened, the child could have faced serious danger, including the risk of a traffic accident.
The court has handed Mehra a two-year community order, requiring her to participate in a rehabilitation program. Additionally, she has been ordered to pay £6,114.
