The country's gold market has touched a new record. The price of 22-carat gold per bhori (11.664 grams) is now Tk 2 lakh 17 thousand 382. With the increase in demand, a new duty-free facility has been introduced for passengers in importing gold from abroad.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has recently issued the 'Unaccompanied Passenger Baggage Rules, 2025'. According to the rules, a passenger can bring a maximum of 100 grams of gold ornaments or 200 grams of silver ornaments duty-free once a year while returning from abroad. However, more than 12 of a type of jewelry cannot be taken.

Although there is a special duty system for passengers, a passenger can bring 10 tola-weight gold bars into the country per year by paying Tk 5 thousand per tola. After arriving in the country, passengers have to fill the baggage declaration form. However, if it is within the duty-free limit, filling the form is not mandatory and passengers can leave the airport directly using the green channel.
