The peak season for hilsa is underway in the country, but the price of fish continues to rise like a mountain. The clamor for fish in the market and the price increase are making the common people from the middle class to the lower class confused. It has become difficult for many to cope with the pressure of this price increase of nutritious fish.
A visit to various raw markets in the capital shows that the prices of all types of fish, big and small, have increased dramatically in the last one to one and a half months. The price of large rui fish is now between 500 and 550 taka per kg, and the price of small fish is also several steps higher than before. Sellers in Badda and Rampura markets say that farmers have been forced to reduce production due to the death of many pond fish due to the heat, resulting in the price increase.
A buyer said in a disappointed tone, “Where a month ago I used to buy fish for 320 taka per kg, now it is around 400 taka.” He said that it has become quite difficult to buy fish at such a price.
The Hilsa market is no different. Usually, the price of Hilsa should be a little cheaper at this time, but it has not been this year. The price of Hilsa from small to large sizes has skyrocketed, which is difficult for many to bear.
Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar said that the government has taken various initiatives to control prices, but the market situation is still under pressure.
Vegetable prices have also not come down. Starting from tomatoes, brinjals, bitter gourds and other vegetables are now at dream prices. On the one hand, prices are increasing, on the other hand, the middle and lower class are gradually moving away from nutritious food.
All in all, rice, fish, vegetables have now become a big challenge for buyers in the country's market in terms of prices. Experts say that if there is no regular monitoring in the market, the nutritional crisis of the poor people will increase further. Therefore, it is important to take quick action.
