On Wednesday (October 2), hilsa is being sold for Tk 1,700 to Tk 1,800 per kilogram in the wholesale fish market of Benapole market. Accordingly, hilsa of the same size is being exported to India at a price of around 500 to 600 rupees. Benapole port source informed these information.
Aswadul Alam, Inspector of Fisheries Inspection and Quality Control Center of Benapole Land Port of Fisheries Department, said that the circular of Hilsa export was a few years ago. However, he also thinks that the price can be adjusted in line with the domestic market price of hilsa.
Ismail Hossain, General Secretary of Navaran Bazar Matsya Arat Samiti, said that in the local market, where one kilogram of hilsa is sold at Tk 1,700-800, it is incomprehensible how it is being exported to India at $10 or Tk 1,180 per kg.
