The court has ordered the submission of the investigation report by April 15 in the abetment to suicide case filed against small screen actor Zaher Alvi and two others. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin issued the order on Sunday.
Prosecution Police SI Saiful Islam said that the case report reached the court on Sunday afternoon. The court accepted it and ordered the submission of the investigation report within the stipulated time. Alvi's mother Nasrin Sultana Shiuli is named as another accused in the case.
The hanging body of the actor's wife Afra Ibnat Iqra was recovered from her house in the capital's Mirpur DOHS area on Saturday afternoon. Police said that around 12:15 pm, family members found her wrapped in a veil tied to a ceiling fan. Later, with the help of the owner and relatives, she was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
After the incident, the police went to the hospital and prepared a report and collected various evidence from the house. On the same night, Iqra's maternal uncle Sheikh Tanvir Ahmed filed a case at Pallabi Police Station on charges of abetment to suicide. He alleged that Iqra was forced to commit suicide due to long-standing family feud and various types of torture.
On the other hand, Zaher Alvi, who is currently in Nepal for shooting, called the incident a suicide in a post on social media. He wrote that he was mentally broken after hearing the news of his wife's death and was shocked by Iqra's decision without thinking about her child.
It is worth noting that Alvi and Iqra got married in 2010. They have a son. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and further legal action will be decided after the report is filed.
