Popular singer James' concert in Meherpur has been canceled due to political pressure and objections from leaders. Although it was originally scheduled to be held at the Meherpur District Stadium, the organizers were forced to cancel the event due to lack of permission from the administration and political conflict.
James' personal assistant Robin Thakur said, "We don't know why the administration did not give permission. We will have to contact the organizers in this regard."
'Surya Club' President Nahid Mahbub Sani and General Secretary Nasim Rana Badhan said, "The administration did not give permission for the concert due to political pressure. The permission has been withheld due to objections from Meherpur District BNP, NCP and Jamaat-e-Islami."
Nasim Rana Badhan further said, “We met with the DC, OC, SP and Circle SP to ensure security. But due to the intervention of the magistrate during the campaign and the protests on social media, we were forced to postpone the concert.”
It is learnt that the plan was not to have any political leader as the chief guest at the concert. However, former Meherpur MP and district BNP leader Maruf Ahmed Bijon was not invited as a guest, so he and his supporters created obstacles. The organisers said that there was no protest or problem when Bijon was invited as a guest at the previous concert.
The general secretary of ‘Surya Club’ said, “We are a non-political organisation. We wanted to have the DC as the chief guest, but problems arose because he was not invited as a guest despite having VIP cards for political leaders and their families.”
Although allegations were raised that BNP, NCP and Jamaat were involved in the cancellation of the concert, both parties denied the allegations. Maruf Ahmed Bijon said, “I have no other role with the administration. Who comes to the concert is not my concern.” Shakil Ahmed, the district coordinator of Meherpur NCP, also said, “We are not involved in this. The administration and the organizers will decide whether the concert will take place or not.”
In this situation, the audience and James' fans have been disappointed. The organizers hope that in the future it will be possible to conduct cultural programs without political influence.
