The Assam School Education Council has announced the inclusion of legendary Indian musician Zubin Garg in textbooks. This initiative will be implemented in 14 major Indian languages in the Modern Indian Language (MIL) curriculum. As a result, students across India will get the opportunity to get acquainted with Zubin's life, artistry and philosophy of humanity.
Musician Zubin Garg lost his life while scuba diving in Singapore on September 19. His sudden death has cast a shadow of mourning across Assam and other parts of India. Even after ten days of his death, the crowd of fans and admirers has not stopped at his grave in Guwahati.
The decision was announced at Zubin's residence in Kahilipara, Assam. Indian media India Today reported that in addition to including his biography in the curriculum, educational institutions have taken various initiatives to honor Zubin.
The Gauhati University authorities have already announced that their Centre for Performing Arts and Culture will be renamed after Zubin Garg. It has also been decided to install a statue of Zubin in front of the main gate of the university and publish a coffee table book on his musical life. In addition, a new section called 'Zubiner Gaan' will be launched in the annual inter-college youth festival.
Incidentally, Zubin was injured while scuba diving in Singapore while participating in the North-East India Festival. He breathed his last on the spot. His last rites were performed with state honours on September 23 in Guwahati's Kamarkuchi NC village. He was buried on a land of about 10 bighas.
About 1.7 million people thronged the streets of Assam to pay their respects to the singer. However, an investigation is underway into the allegations of conspiracy surrounding his death. In the meantime, the police have arrested the band's drummer and close aide Shekhar Jyoti Goswami.
