Late last year, a much-discussed news story came to the fore, in which the names of popular television drama actresses Tanjin Tisha, Mumtahina Chowdhury Toya, and Safa Kabir, along with singer Sunidhi Naik, were implicated. The allegations were that they regularly collected drugs through a special WhatsApp group. However, Safa Kabir remained completely silent about the whole matter at that time. She even went into hiding from social media.
After a long eight months, the actress finally opened up about the allegations. Recently, participating in the ‘Behind the Frame’ podcast hosted by Rumman Rashid Khan, she highlighted various aspects of her life, as well as this discussed incident.
Safa said, “I was completely shocked after watching the news. I was just thinking, what is really going on! Such a news was published about three or four media girls, but no one even thought about how publishing such news could affect our lives. My career was immediately damaged.”
She said that fake news had an impact on her career. Just three days after the news was published, a contract with a major brand was canceled. Colleagues also expressed their unwillingness to work with her to avoid controversy. In Safa's words, "I had nothing to prove. I just tried to explain, but it was not accepted by many."
Although she was mentally and professionally devastated by the allegations, the support of some friends from the showbiz arena gave her strength. Safa said that Tausif Mahbub, Jovan and Siam were by her side at that time. "Many say that people in the media are not real friends. But I am lucky to have found real friends," she said.
Incidentally, Safa Kabir believes that publishing news against someone without evidence or spreading information on social media is unethical and harmful. According to her, "We often do things in a hurry. But we don't think about the impact it can have on someone's life. Family, career - everything can be destroyed like this. Therefore, responsible behavior is important before publishing any news."
