Dhaka cinema's popular actress Nusrat Faria has been detained by the Immigration Police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. She was detained on Sunday (May 18) morning while she was flying to Thailand on a Bangladesh Biman flight. She was then handed over to the Bhatara Police Station in the capital. From there, she will be taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police Office.
DB Joint Police Commissioner (South) Mohammad Nasirul Islam confirmed the matter and said, "She is being taken to the DB office as part of the investigation of the case filed at Bhatara Police Station. She will be interrogated and further legal action will be taken based on the analysis of the information received."
Sources said that a case was filed at Bhatara Police Station over an incident during the 2024 anti-discrimination movement. The complaint states that Nusrat Faria opposed the movement and helped finance the Awami League. Several other stars — Apu Biswas, Nipun Akhter, Bhavna and Zayed Khan — have also been named as accused in the case.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam said, “The immigration police detained him because of the case against him. Later, he was taken into police custody. Now, depending on the investigation, it will be decided whether he will be shown arrested or not.”
Incidentally, he has not been shown arrested yet, but has been kept in detention as the investigation is ongoing.
