The accused's lawyer, Sandeep Shekhayan, has made a surprising claim in the court, questioning whether Shariful Islam Shehzad, the attacker of actor Saif Ali Khan, is really Bangladeshi or not. He said that the police do not have any evidence that can support Shariful's claim of Bangladeshi citizenship. Sandeep Shekhayan also claimed that his client, Shariful, has been living in Mumbai's Hiranandani Estate area for the past seven years.

Saif Ali Khan was stabbed in his own house on Thursday morning and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. Three days after the incident, the accused Shariful was arrested from Thane area of Mumbai on Sunday morning. After the arrest, Mumbai Police DCP Dixit Gedam said that no proof of Indian citizenship was found with the accused and it is suspected that he is a Bangladeshi citizen.

On the other hand, Sandeep Shekhane, standing against the allegations, said that the police could not present any credible evidence, even that Shariful had been in this area for five-six months. He alleged that a full investigation has not been done yet and this could be a violation of Section 43A.

On the other hand, Shariful's other lawyer Dinesh Prajapati said that Shariful has been living in Mumbai with his family for the last seven years and the police could not present any evidence of his Bangladeshi identity in the court.

Meanwhile, the Bandra court has ordered the accused to be kept in police custody for five days and has also directed the police to submit a report within this period.
