Newly appointed Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has firmly stated that there will be no “transfer trade” within the Ministry of Education. He emphasized that corruption and irregularities will not be tolerated under his leadership.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday (February 19) at the Secretariat on his second working day, the minister outlined several reform initiatives. He said the ministry’s activities will be made app-based to ensure transparency and efficiency, and that quality textbooks will be delivered to students on time. “There will be no syndicates in the education sector,” he added.
Regarding anti-cheating drives, the minister remarked that such operations would no longer be necessary in Bangladesh if the system functions properly. Referring to his previous tenure as a minister, he claimed that no corruption allegations were raised against him and reiterated that there will be no room for corruption in the ministry.
Ehsanul Haque Milon also criticized past practices, mentioning incidents where mob pressure allegedly led to automatic promotions and exam cancellations. He further noted that in some cases, teachers skipped classes and examinations to participate in political programs. “This will not be allowed to continue,” he said, stressing that the government aims to reform and modernize the entire education system.
He announced that the national curriculum will be reviewed and updated to align with modern standards. Additionally, he stated that English medium schools will be brought under government regulations. If any English medium institution is found guilty of wrongdoing, it will also face appropriate legal action, he warned.
The minister concluded by reaffirming his commitment to rebuilding the education sector with accountability, discipline, and modernization at its core.
