As part of the ongoing six-point demand movement, the 'Karigori Chhatra Andolon' has announced an extended shutdown program in all polytechnic institutes in the country. The announcement was made in a press release sent to the media on Monday (April 28) night. The shutdown will come into effect from tomorrow, Tuesday (April 29) and the program will continue until the students' six-point demands are met.

The press release stated that educational activities will be suspended simultaneously in all government and private polytechnic institutes in the country until a specific outline is announced to implement the demands.

Polytechnic students have been carrying out a series of programs for several months. On April 16, around 10 am, students gathered at the Satrasta intersection in Tejgaon in the capital and started a protest and sit-in program. On the same day, students in different districts across the country blocked roads and railways to express solidarity with the movement.

It is worth noting that the students announced the temporary suspension of their ongoing movement in a press conference organized at the Dhaka Polytechnic Institute on the night of April 15. However, they also warned that if the implementation of their six-point demands is delayed, they will return to a more stringent program. Finally, since the students' demands were ignored, they have now embarked on a prolonged shutdown.

The students' six-point demands include:

Ensuring recognition and dignity of diploma students

Increasing the age limit for applying for jobs

Updating the curriculum of technical education

Developing adequate infrastructure in educational institutions

Increasing student stipends

Introducing a special cadre for diploma engineers

The students said that they will not withdraw from the movement without implementing their demands and are prepared to announce a more stringent program if necessary.
