10-year-old child drinks poison after not getting money from mother

A 10-year-old child, Rakib, drank poison after not getting 10 taka from his mother in Hanurbaradi village of Chuadanga Sadar upazila. The child has been admitted to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital in a serious condition.
According to local sources, Rakib asked his mother for 10 taka at around 10 am on Saturday. Unable to get the money, he went to a nearby field and drank poison. After a while, he returned home and told his family members, “What if I die? I have eaten poison.” The family members then rescued the child and quickly admitted him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
Dr. Wahid Mahmud Robin, a physician at the emergency department of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said, “A child named Rakib was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state in the morning. After his tests, it was confirmed that he had eaten a poisonous substance. He was given first aid including a quick gastric lavage. The child is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.”
