Three death row inmates attempted to escape from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail in Gazipur. The incident came to light when Asadur Rahman, the jailer of the prison, filed a case in this regard with Konabari Police Station on Thursday (August 7) night.
According to the complaint, Shahadat Hossain of Tangail, Roni Mahanta of Joypurhat and Nazrul Islam Majnu alias Manju of Kurigram were preparing to escape. On the night of August 5, Assistant Chief Guard Mokhlesur Rahman heard the sound of hitting the wall from a room on the ground floor of the Tamal Bhaban.
The next day (August 6) morning, a search of the room found iron sheets, two pieces of rods, a 28-foot rope made from cutting blankets, a 25-foot belt of blankets, iron rings, 10-foot poles and various materials. During interrogation, the prisoners admitted that they had prepared these things to escape from prison if they got the chance.
Prison sources said that if the situation had developed like on August 5, 2024, all three would have escaped. Based on intelligence information, security has already been strengthened in prisons across the country.
