According to police and local sources, workers were extracting sand from the Karatoya River on the Bangladesh side, about 50 yards inside the border pillar 425 under the responsibility of the Mainaguri BOP of the Panchagarh-18 BGB battalion. At that time, a heavy metal object came up with the sand. Upon closer examination, it was identified as an 82-millimeter mortar shell.

Local residents believe that the mortar shell may be from the Great Liberation War. They believe that it came to the surface during the excavation of sand after being buried underground for a long time.

An application has been sent to the court in this regard. After receiving the court's instructions, necessary action will be taken and the Army's Bomb Disposal Unit is being informed of the matter.
