403 more arrested, surrounding violence in quota reform movement

Nationwide arrest operation in connection with violence and arson surrounding the quota reform movement

Law and order enforcement forces have continued nationwide arrest operations in connection with violence and arson surrounding the quota reform movement. 403 more arrests were reported in the last 24 hours. They were arrested from Sunday noon to yesterday Monday noon. In the last 13 days, more than 9,500 people have been arrested across the country including the capital.

The continuous protest program of students started on July 1, demanding reform of quota system in government jobs. On July 15, after the clashes surrounding the students' movement in Dhaka University, protests spread almost all over the country. From the next day, attacks, clashes, vandalism, vandalism, arson and casualties occurred in different parts of the country including the capital. These cases are happening one after another in different places. The number of arrests is also increasing.

A large number of those arrested so far in the combing operation by the law and order forces are leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami and their affiliated organizations. Apart from this, top leaders of various parties who are in simultaneous movement with BNP are also being arrested. Students are also being arrested. The police, however, claim that only those who were actually involved in the violence are being arrested. They are arresting criminals after collecting CCTV footage from different places.

According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) sources, 56 people were arrested in the capital from 12 noon on Sunday to 12 noon on Monday. A total of 2,820 people have been arrested in the capital. In all, a total of 243 cases have been reported in the capital till 12 noon on Monday in connection with the quota reform movement.

Apart from this, 23 cases have been registered till yesterday in Dhaka's Dhamrai, Savar, Ashulia, Keraniganj, Nawabganj and Doha police stations. On the contrary, seven people were arrested yesterday from these areas.

On the other hand RAB said that they have so far arrested 334 people across the country. Among them, 83 people were arrested in Dhaka and 251 outside Dhaka.

In the last 24 hours, the police arrested 51 more people in Narayanganj. During this time there were two more cases. A total of 563 people have been arrested in Narayanganj in 29 cases.

Two new cases have also been reported in Gazipur. 22 people have been arrested there in the last 24 hours. A total of 464 people have been arrested in Gazipur in 42 cases. Two new cases have also been reported in Madaripur. Police have arrested 118 people in 13 cases so far in this district.

Besides, 23 people were arrested in 31 cases in Chittagong city and district on Sunday. Most of them are BNP activists. A total of 957 people have been arrested in Chittagong in connection with the quota reform movement.

7 more BNP leaders and activists were arrested from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning in Feni. A total of 97 people have been arrested in the last 11 days in two cases of explosives and sabotage in Feni Sadar Model Police Station. District BNP member secretary Alal Uddin, however, complained that more than 150 of their leaders and workers have been arrested.

Apart from Dhaka and Chittagong, cases and arrests are comparatively more in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Bogra. 17 cases have been registered so far in Rajshahi metropolis and district. 18 new people have been arrested there. A total of 383 people were arrested in Rajshahi. Five more people have been arrested in Bogra in the last 24 hours. 153 people have been arrested till Monday in 15 cases in this district.

24 people have been newly arrested in Rangpur. So far 243 people have been arrested in 22 cases in Rangpur city and district. Among them, 186 people were arrested in Rangpur metropolitan area and 47 people were arrested in the district.
