Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a gold smuggler named Mahfuz Molla (26) along with 19 gold bars weighing 4.5 kg from Amrakhali check post of Benapole while smuggling to India.
The detained Mahfuz Molla is the son of Hasmat Ullah of Mangalpur village of Lohagara police station in Narail district.
Jessore 49 BGB Battalion Commanding Officer Lt. Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui told a press conference at Benapole BGB camp at 3:30 pm that Mahfuz Molla was arrested by searching a passenger bus bound for Benapole at Amrakhali, the BGB's permanent check post near Benapole. Later, his body was searched and the gold bars hidden in a fancy way in the black cloth around his waist were recovered. The value of recovered gold is about 4 crore 61 lakh 62 thousand taka. The BGB official said that the detained Masud Mollah will be handed over to the Benapole Port Police Station and the gold bar will be deposited in the treasury.
