Students have blocked the Khulna-Kushtia highway for the third day demanding the immediate appointment of a vice-chancellor in the Islamic University (EB).
The protest march started from Battala of the university at 11 am on Sunday (September 22). The procession circled the main campus road and ended in front of the main gate. Later students protested by blocking the highway. It blocked the highway for a long time, causing long traffic jams on both sides of the road.
Students in the protest march-'When everyone is in the morgue, why is EB in the morgue,' Ibians aim, VC will be efficient', 'Rabi, DU gets VC, why EB lags behind', 'Not six with VC, no more, no more', 'Reformation VC' Chai' chanted various slogans including 'corrupt free VC', 'honest and brave VC', 'Sessionjtor Kabar Chai'.
The students said in the assembly, the students in the assembly said that the universities established a century ago have got vice-chancellors. There Islamic University is the first university of independent Bangladesh, why is it still not appointing a VC. If the VC is not appointed very soon then we will be forced to be more strict. We want to return to our classrooms, not to the field.
Appointment of Vice-Chancellor in EB should be arranged immediately. Honest, efficient, student-friendly and academician Vice-Chancellor wanted. No corrupt person should be vice chancellor of EB.
They also said that the Islamic University has fallen away from its founding goals and objectives. I demand the appointment of a vice-chancellor who will implement that objective. We do not want a vice chancellor who has been associated with corruption in the past. A qualified person should be appointed as Vice-Chancellor after all the past activities. Who will always work with the students to solve the problems of the university.
