After the recent elections of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), discussions have started again around the new president Tamim Iqbal. A comment he made at a press conference after the election results were announced went viral on social media and sparked a new debate.
Tamim Iqbal said, "Many people are giving different types of tags, it is their personal opinion. Let's see if I can turn 'father's prayers' into 'cricket prayers' in the future."
His comment is being seen as a response to the phrase 'father's prayers cricket board', which was originally created around a criticism made in the National Parliament.
Before and after the elections, there was a lot of discussion in the political and social arena about the BCB ad hoc committee. There were allegations that the children of ministers and MPs were given priority, which was also criticized.
Tamim Iqbal was elected BCB president by a landslide victory after participating in the elections. He received the highest 73 votes in the club category. It is reported that 74 votes were cast out of the total votes.
After being elected president, Tamim also said, “Regardless of our personal identities, we have only one responsibility—to take Bangladesh cricket forward.”
Cricket analysts believe that the big challenge facing the new leadership now is to improve on-field performance and reduce internal disputes within the board.
