Amid the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and ahead of the new government’s swearing-in scheduled for Tuesday, rumors surfaced on social media suggesting that former cricketer Tamim Iqbal might join the cabinet.
The speculation claimed that Tamim would take charge of the Ministry of Sports under the technocrat quota, with some even suggesting he would be appointed as Deputy Minister of Sports.
However, Tamim himself dismissed these reports. In a social media post late Saturday night, he wrote,
“Throughout the day (February 14), I noticed various rumors circulating about me in the media and on social media. These are completely false.”

He clarified that he has not received any such offer from the BNP regarding a ministerial position. He also urged everyone to refrain from spreading unverified and baseless news.
It is noteworthy that at the age of 36, Tamim Iqbal voted in a national parliamentary election for the first time. After casting his vote on February 12 in Chattogram-9, he shared his excitement, saying, “I cast my first vote in life today.”
