When various discussions and controversies were rife around the upcoming elections of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), sports advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan made an explosive claim. He claimed that Indian cricket star Virat Kohli had also received a complaint about the BCB elections and he shared it with Gautam Gambhir and others.
In an interview given to a television channel on Wednesday (October 1), Asif Mahmud said, “Someone called and complained to Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli shared it with Gambhir and others. Complaints should not be made anywhere, which is shameful for my country.”
He further said, “The Tamim brothers tried to fix it, but failed. They called the president and secretaries and told them that councilors should be given. The DCs were threatened, many things were done. I say they did not exist. But they tried to fix the election.”
According to Asif Mahmud, signs of threats have also been found surrounding the election. “We have some call records and documents. It was said that if you vote, you will have to face the consequences after 6 months—the hint is like threatening someone after the national election.”
When many accused him of behaving like former BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon, he retorted, “During Papon Bhai’s time, who would become councilors from the district-division? The president of the Awami League would come, the sons of big leaders would come. Those who have no connection with the sports organization. So how do you say Papon Bhai’s plan?”
It is worth noting that the much-discussed BCB elections are going to be held on October 6. The two directors of the National Sports Council (NSC) quota have not yet been determined. In this situation, the country's sports arena is heated with various rumors, allegations and counter-allegations surrounding the election. However, sports advisor Asif Mahmud has also said that he is ready to sit with any party for the sake of the election.
