Inter Miami won 4-0 with the magic of Argentine legend Lionel Messi at the New York City FC ground. Messi's skills were evident in every moment of the match, which not only made the goal, but also the whole team's game.
In the 43rd minute of the match, Messi scored a goal for Miami midfielder Baltazar Rodriguez after breaking New York City's defense. With this, Messi became the first player in MLS history to contribute at least 35 goals in two seasons.
Messi did not stop even after the break. In the 74th minute, he scored with a chip shot over New York goalkeeper Matt Frisi. In the 83rd minute, Luis Suarez scored from the penalty spot, and Messi increased the lead with his extraordinary shot again in the 86th minute. With these two goals, Messi became the fourth player in MLS to score more than one goal in eight matches in a season.
The victory sent Inter Miami, managed by Javier Mascherano, into the MLS Cup playoffs. Miami have won three consecutive matches and scored a season-high 64 goals. The performance against New York City has lifted the team to third place in the Eastern Conference with 55 points, ahead of Philadelphia Union.
Messi has taken the top scorer spot this season with 24 goals in 23 matches. Los Angeles FC winger Dennis Bouyangga is challenging him with 22 goals in 28 matches. Messi's excellent form and the team's solid play make Miami dream of winning the Supporters' Shield this time.
Messi, Suarez and Miami's duo can show that goals are not just numbers, but also the art of the game. Their game has opened a new chapter in the history of MLS.
