Thiago Silva could return to the Brazil team!

After the 2022 Qatar World Cup quarter-final exit, veteran defender Thiago Silva has not been seen in the Brazil national team jersey. He has already reached the age of 40, so many thought that his international career was over. However, Brazil's current head coach Carlo Ancelotti has lit a new light of hope. According to him, if Silva's performance and fitness prove that he is worthy, then age is not a barrier.
This star defender, who has played 113 matches for Brazil, is currently playing for his childhood club Fluminense. After a long time at Chelsea, he left at the end of his contract in 2024. Then he joined Fluminense and came into discussion again with his leadership and experience on the field. He also led the team to the semi-finals of the Club World Cup last June by leading from the front. He is in discussion again because he has maintained consistency in performance with age.
Silva's relationship with Ancelotti also has a long history. The Italian coach knows Silva closely from his time at AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). He recently spoke to him. In light of that experience, Ancelotti said that he has no hesitation in bringing Silva back to the national team if the opportunity arises.
In this regard, Ancelotti said,
“I know Thiago Silva very well. I signed him for AC Milan and PSG. I spoke to him 10 days ago. I don’t need to see his age or passport when calling him to the national team. If Silva plays better than anyone else, there should be no problem in taking him.”
Explaining why he wants to see an experienced player like Silva in the team, Ancelotti added that in football, experience and mental toughness often become valuable beyond age. Citing examples, he said that players like Luka Modric and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini have shown their dominance in world football despite overcoming the age barrier after leaving Real Madrid.
Finally, Ancelotti hinted that if Silva can maintain his form for Fluminense, he could be seen again in the Brazilian Seleção squad.
