Although Pakistan's star batsman Babar Azam owns the second highest century in ODI cricket, he has not scored an ODI century in the last 21 innings. His highest innings during this period was 74 runs. However, even in this rhythmless period, Babar Azam has been able to write his name in the record books.
Yesterday, in the final of the tri-nation ODI series against New Zealand, he shared a record with Hashim Amla and became the joint owner of the record of the fastest 6000 runs in ODIs. Babar shared this record with former South African batsman Amla.
Babar played only 123 innings to reach the milestone of 6000 runs in ODIs, which made him the fastest Pakistani cricketer to score 6000 runs. Earlier, Saeed Anwar achieved this milestone in 162 innings.
Babar Azam is also the fastest to reach 5000 runs in ODIs. It took Babar just 97 innings to reach this milestone. Babar currently has an average of 55.73, which is the highest average among any batsman to reach 6000 runs in ODIs. Earlier, Michael Bevan had an average of 54.70.
So far, apart from Babar Azam, 11 Pakistani batsmen have achieved the feat of reaching 6000 runs, but Babar was 30 years and 122 days old, which is younger than three other Pakistani batsmen.
Babar has 19 centuries in ODIs, which is the second most among Pakistanis. Saeed Anwar tops the list with 20 centuries. Babar also scored a hat-trick of ODI centuries in 2016 and 2022.
